A common point of feedback revolves around the substantial portion sizes, leading some diners simply unable to finish their meals. This generous serving size, while appreciated by many, can be daunting, especially for those wanting to experience dessert as well. The busyness during peak dining hours can lead to longer wait times for food and service, particularly on weekends and Thursday dinners. Some visitors have mentioned that while the food is delicious, the limited dessert options can be disappointing for those hoping to indulge in a sweet treat after their meal. Lastly, with the casual and busy atmosphere, those seeking complete privacy or a more intimate dining experience may find it less suited to their tastes.
Lovely pub, did a great job accommodating for our large family birthday party (12 people). The food was delicious, all cooked to perfection and fresh. Maybe my only qualm would be that portions were too big- only one member of our party finished their meal, and we didn't get the chance to try any dessert!
We recently had a fantastic meal at the Colliers Arms. The steak was cooked to perfection, the fish and chips were crispy and delicious, and the cock and bull was a hearty and satisfying meal. The food was all incredibly tasty and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!
Traditional homemade cooked food. A rarity these days. Absolutely top notch food and portions. Staff are really friendly and the place itself has a cosy old school pub atmosphere. I know a few people like ourselves travel to go here. Can't fault it.
Lovely warm little place with the cottage feel. Food was delicious and the porportions are incredible for the price. Its cooked beautifully and the staff are warm and welcoming, and have such lovely manners. Will for certain go again and make it a regular spot.
Looking for places to eat we found this gem and the truth is that it was the best decision, the atmosphere of the place is pleasant, the staff very friendly and the food delicious, everything we ordered was good and you could see in every bite the quality of the ingredients, the dishes very well served and the refreshing drinks. It's definitely a place we'll go again.
19th FEBRUARY 2025 ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubby Neil and I to a place we’ve never been before. We took a little drive out just up the East Lancs to St. Helens, to a proper old pub called ‘The Colliers Arms’, the food was very similar to a few weeks ago at the Nevison Country Inn, delicious home cooked food and not a frozen morsel anywhere. The three ladies running around had everything under control, the pub is small on the in side but every corner was put to use, the car park was packed and that to me says a lot about the food! Waiting time was just cooking time, all the food was fresh and piping hot. We skipped the starters with looking at the plates when we entered, a starter for us definitely wasn’t needed! Entrées: We saw the dish of the lady next to us and decided we wanted the same! Homemade steak and onion pie, with thick chunks of steak, onions, rich gravy covered with homemade short crust pastry, accompanied with thickly cut fresh carrots and green beans, perfectly cooked Al dente, along with chunky, hand chopped, proper chips, crispy on the outside and lovely and fluffy on the inside….. we had a side of garlic ciabatta, loaded with melted cheese, a small ramekin of olive oil and balsamic for dipping, an extra bowl of chunky chips. This place is a little gold mine and a country pub hidden little gem, it’s most definitely a place to try, go early to avoid not getting a seat! Would we go back? I think the above has already answered that!!!
Great place really lives up to the good reviews. Staff super friendly and professional. Lots of choice of food and drink. Food very good value for the price l, lots of seating area and a decent sized car park. Not something I'd normally mention on a review but the men's toilets have been renovated in the past couple of years by the looks of it and are some of the cleanest modern ones I've seen for a pub! Overall super impressed and worth a visit for a drink or some food if in the area!!
